The Free University of Bozen-Bolzano was founded on 31st October 1997 as a free, state-recognized university.
It incorporates:
- School of Economics and Management
- Faculty of Education
- Faculty of Computer Science
- Faculty of Design and Art
The Free University of Bozen-Bolzano aims to offer students a multilingual, practice-oriented education that meets the demands of the local and the
European labour market. Lectures and seminars are held in German, Italian and English. The only exception here being the Faculty of Education,
which offers German, Italian and Ladin speaking students separate training sections.
The emphasis of teaching is to provide theoretically sound and practice-orientated training.
A large proportion of educational activities take place as seminars, lectures given by guest-speakers, practical training and workshops.
Within the framework of the academic exchange program students are encouraged to spend one or more semesters at universities abroad.

Travel Information
Bolzano-Bozen is directly accessible by train from Milan, Munich, Rome and Verona.
From Milan to Bolzano-Bozen
If you go to Bolzano-Bozen via Milan, please take into account that Milan has three airports,
Linate, Malpensa and Milano Orio al Serio (which is actually Bergamo).
Trains to Bolzano-Bozen depart from Milan Central Railway Station.
From Linate to Milan Central Railway Station

The centre of Milan is 7 kilometers from Linate Airport. You can take the blue bus from Milano Linate to Milano Central Railway Station.
There is a bus every 30 minutes, and the travel takes about 25 minutes (if there are no traffic jams).
It is also possible to take bus 92 to San Babila street, and then the subway to the Milano Central Railway Station.
Tickets can be bought at Agenzia Starfly Linate or on the bus. Fare: EUR 2.50.
From Malpensa to Milan Central Railway Station

The centre of Milan is 7 kilometres from Malpensa Airport. You can go to Milan by bus or train.
You can also take the bus from Milano Malpensa to Milano Central Railway Station.
It costs 5 Euros, there is a bus every 10 minutes, and the travel takes less than one hour (if there are no traffic jams).
To reach Milano Central Railway Station, you might also take the train from Milano Malpensa to Milano Cadorna Railway Station,
and then the subway to the Milano Central Railway Station, but it is easier to take the bus.
Trains to Cadorna Railway Station depart from Terminal 1 every 30 minutes.
The journey lasts about 40 minutes. Make sure you get your ticket before you get on the train.
The ticket booth is situated on the ground floor, the railway station is under ground.
It is easy to find and reach the right platform: there are clear indications. The escalator, at the side of the ticket booth,
takes you directly down to the platforms. There is also an automatic 24-hour ticket machine, which is a good alternative to the traditional ticket counter.

From Milan Central Railway Station it takes about 3,5 hours to Bolzano-Bozen.

If you arrive at Milano Orio al Serio, you can take a bus to Bergamo Railway Station.

From Munich to Bolzano-Bozen
Munich Airport (www.munich-airport.de ) is well connected to the railroad network.
You can go to Bolzano-Bozen from the airport by switching trains only once.

It takes about 4.5 hours to Bolzano-Bozen from Munich Airport. Do not forget to buy tickets before you enter the train, because they are more expensive on the train!
From Rome to Bolzano-Bozen
If you go to Bolzano-Bozen via Rome, please take into account that Rome has two airports ( www.adr.it ), Fiumicino and Ciampino.
Trains to Bolzano-Bozen leave at Termini Railway Station.
The Leonardo Express connects every 30 minutes Fiumicino Airport with Termini Railway Station. The fare is 9,50 EUR for a one-way ticket.
It takes about 35 minutes from Fiumicino to Termini.
From Ciampino Airport a bus is available every 20 minutes from and to Ciampino Railway Station from where an underground goes every 10 minutes to Termini Railway Station.

From Verona Airport a bus departs every 20 minutes to Verona Railway Station. Fare: EUR 4.50. By train it takes between 1h 40 and 2 h to Bolzano-Bozen.
From Bolzano-Bozen Railway Station to the Youth Hostel
If you stay at the youth hostel, you have only three minutes to go from the railway station.
